Suggest Treatment For Swollen Glands On The Neck

default
Posted on Tue, 5 May 2015
Question: I am a 39 year old female. I have a long history of sinus issues, had mutliple sinus sugeries spanning 20 years. My last visit to my ENT surgeon about 18 months ago revealed there is nothing more they can do and its just my weak spot......admitidely, then, my sinusitis was much reduced to about 4 abouts a year which is good for me!

Since christmas I have had 5 sinus/respiratory tract infections, 2 were really bad, 4 lots of antibiotics (about 40 days worth). 3 lots of 30mg oral steriods, nasal spray, antihistamines - been here before! .

I have also seen a rhumatologist as I suffer bouts of ectreme pain an fatigue.....blood all normal I am told. After MRI and nerve tests, they couldn't pin point cause but put me on gabapentin to ease the pain, but the side effects weren't great so I came off them and trialing alternatives.

Since january a gland on the right side of my neck has been swollen, and its getting bigger. Two weeks ago my GP did blood tests and they came back normal. Its painless largely, but aches from time to time. I still suffer my usual aches and pains which are predominated around the right side of my head, neck, shoulder, arm and armpit.

I feel like a hypochondriac going back to my GP again, but I feel ill (flu like) and tired most of the time. I am not suffering anxiety or depression either. I really just want to know whats going on with me as I just don't feel right but I don't know what it is or what to ask the GP to help me sort this out.

Brief Answer:
ultrasound neck

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns that you are having recurrent episodes of sinusitis with right sided neck swelling.

I suggest you to follow these measures to overcome your health issues.

1. Repeated infections (sinus or lung) could be due to low immunity secondary to nutritional deficiencies or allergens (environmental or food).

Improve your immunity with correction of deficiencies (iron, folic acid and calcium), take prophylactic anti allergic medication like tab.l-montus (citrizine + motelukast) daily one tab at bed time to prevent contact of allergens (these are prescribed medications, needs to be taken medical prescription and guidance).

2. Growing swelling over right side of neck, could be due to lymph node or cyst or lipoma. Get evaluated with ultrasound neck and if necessary, fine needle aspiration cytology.

3. Kindly discuss about these medications and instructions with your treating doctor.

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
