Detailed Answer:
Dear Friend.
Welcome to HCM. I am Dr Anshul Varshney. I understand your concern.
The swelling in the paralyzed hand is due to stasis. Other reasons could be local cellulitis, thrombophlebitis due to IV cannula.
Tell me following:
1. When did he suffer from paralysis attack?
2. Is he able to move his hands ?
3. Is he on complete bed rest or he is mobile?
4. Any fever?
5. Any redness or inflammation over the hand?
6. Any injections given recently over there?

Detailed Answer:
Dear Friend.
This seems to be due to residual effects of paralysis.
I advise you following in such situations:
1. To do passive movements of hand and regular physiotherapy.
2. To keep the hand elevated by putting pillow during rest and sleeping.
3. Some people also use hygroscopic dressings like Sumag over the effected swellon area.
1 and 2 are the same as suggested by your doctor. You can add the 3rd one and see response
Actually there is no special medicine to treat this. This gradually improves with time.
Don't fall into any false commitment given by any quack for this.
As far as Aphasia is considered that is due to damage of a particular part if brain that deals with comprehension.
This improves gradually. Speech therapy helps a bit in improvement. Again there is no particular treatment available for this.
If you have any further query please ask me.
Stay Healthy.
