Suggest Treatment For Swelling On Knee After An Injury

default
Posted on Fri, 2 Jan 2015
Question: I hurt my right knee a little over one month ago while running up a hill. My leg twisted...it wasn't immediately painful and I don't remember if I heard a pop or anything. Over the next 24-ish hours my knee swelled up a lot and it was difficult to straighten or bend and put pressure on my knee. I had it checked ~3 1/2 weeks ago and the dr took an x-ray, which was normal. He ruled out ACL or other ligament tear and told me to rest, ice, use compression and elevate, which I've done. He also said to not run and to do stationary cycling instead. I've done that for over 3 weeks. Last week I tried to run in place and there was immediate, sharp pain. I also still have sharp pain on the inside of my knee when going up stairs and on the outside of my knee when going down stairs. I also still have difficulty fully bending my knee and it is painful to kneel. Swelling has gone down considerably but it's still a little swollen.

Brief Answer:
Could be internal ligament injury

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for posting
I have gone through your query and understand your concern. On the basis of pattern of injury and symptoms,I suspect it could well be a meniscus tear (C shape cartilage in the joint). This can be confirmed by physical examination and by getting MRI done.
Do you have episode of knee getting locked in particular position?
Meanwhile you may continue with the same treatment.
Hope this helps and I shall be glad to answer any further query.
