Brief Answer:
More details required to arrive at a conclusion.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone through your query but I would need some more information to be able to arrive at a diagnosis. Please let me know when does the swelling occur, is it more in the morning, more in the evening or is it uniform throughout the day. I would also like to know the specifics of which joints are involved.

I would suggest you to get the following investigations done:
* Blood for urea, creatinine - Derangement will indicate kidney pathology
* Blood for fasting sugar - Diabetes could be associated with such complaints
* Blood for liver function test - The liver synthesizes proteins, lack of which can lead to swelling.

Get back to me with the requested details and I will try to help you out.

Brief Answer:
You need careful clinical examination and correlation.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back.
The pins and needles sensation generally occurs due to nerve compression. It is not feasible to evaluate the source of the nerve compression without careful clinical evaluation. I would therefore suggest you to visit a doctor and to get yourself assessed. In the meantime, it should be worthwhile to get the test done as I have instructed.
