Suggest Treatment For Swelling And Redness Of The Eyes

default
Posted on Tue, 7 Mar 2017
Question: Hi. I had surgery on Tuesday morning. Feel good, healing well. My issue, is that the surrounding tissue around both my eyes was very swollen yesterday...Wednesday morning. And now, my left eye although a bit weepy is fine. The right eye is a different issue. Very very, red in the inner corner, and there is a yellowish moucuusy disvharge. I did gave the anti nauseous patch behind my right ear for surgery. I removed it yesterday mid morning. I've no fever or chills. I have low thyroid and I take a minimal dose I'd hydrochlorthyizide. My husband was recently sick with a terrible head/chest cold. I've never before experienced an eye issue. Is this a side effect from surgery?

Can you upload an image for review?

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for tabling your concern to us. Swollen red eye after surgery could be caused by inflammation after the surgery or an infection. To tell the difference, we need to look at the nature of the swelling. IN this list, I recommend you upload an image for review. This way, I can provide a personalized and helpful response to you.

Are you aware my question was posted on Thursday night?? This is Saturday night, it's 9pm, it's been 48 hrs, and I'm just now receiving a reply. Fortunately, I was able to get in with my primary care physician yesterday (Friday) morning. I was diagnosed with a terrible sinus infection, which isn't surprising considering my husband suffered the same the week prior to my surgery. I felt fine Tuesday morning prior to anesthesia and my intubation, but the infection set in regardless. My physician rx'd an oral antibiotic, an antibiotic eye ointment for nighttime use, and prednisone. I was also given an antibiotic, and steroid injection while at my doctors office. I began the medication immediately, and am happy to say my relief began immediately as well. The most telling relief, was the reduction of swelling, pressure, and discharge from my eyes. Especially my right eye, which was by far the worst. Per my doctors instructions, I've been using compresses, and gently massaging my sinus areas. I thank you for your response.
