Suggest Treatment For Suicidal Thoughts While Having Depression

default
Posted on Sat, 6 Aug 2016
Question: I have attempted suicide at least 6 times since 1985. 10 years ago I lost my only son by an IED in Mosul Iraq. A month before this tragedy I had attempted suicide twice. When my son was killed I blamed myself because I thought God was punishing me for what I had attempted. Before my son was killed I was admitted to a mental health facility for 2 weeks and was diagnosed with non psychotic Bi-Polar with anxiety disorder. Counseling, Lithium and other drugs were worthless. My family doctor and I decided to treat me one step at a time. Now my son's 10 year date of death is approaching (9-3-2006) and I am bringing my 16 year old granddaughter to come see us. I have seen her only twice since her daddy's funeral because of the distance apart. I am so excited to see her as she was only 5 when my son died. But now I going through so much pain and depression not knowing if seeing my XXXXXXX again so close to her daddy's death or just seeing her is bringing back the memories. I sleep 20 hours a day literally and cry the other 4. I don't think I can bear to go through this again. I am 67 years old and I just don't know if my heart can go through that pain again.

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and thanks for your question.

I am sorry you are in so much pain. Here are my thoughts.

It sounds like you are incredibly depressed and are having suicidal thoughts. If this is the case, your safety is the #1 concern. You need rapid treatment in a monitored setting so you can be treated quickly and safely. I strongly recommend calling 911 and visiting a hospital for rapid treatment. In order for you to be happy to see your granddaughter, and to ensure her happiness, you need to take care of yourself and remain alive. So, call 911. Several medications and treatments can help rapidly, including Seroquel, Risperdal, Zyprexa, and even electroconvulsive therapy which is safe and >90% effective.
