Brief Answer:
Allergic rhinitis or viral infection..,

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for posting the query

If the symptoms are of a short duration, then it could be a viral infection. If the symptoms are recurring, then it is allergic rhinitis.

Both of them have different sets of management.

1. Viral infection of the upper respiratory tract is usually self limiting and symptomatic medicines would suffice.
a. An oral antihistamine with a decongestant will help in reducing the nasal congestion.
b. Saline nasal spray - saline, decongests the nose and clears the secretions.
c. Antiinflammatory medicines such as diclofenac or ibuprofen helps in reducing throat and body aches.
d. Drink plenty of warm water.
e. Do steam inhalation.

2. If it is allergic rhinitis, then the management is aimed at reducing the allergy.
a. A steroid nasal spray to reduce the allergic symptom.
b. An oral antihistamine with a decongestant to reduce the nasal congestion.
c. Steam inhalation.
d. Drink plenty of warm water.
e. Avoid perfumes, sleeping in front of AC or under the fan, dusty places, chilled food and beverages.
f. Keep your surroundings clean and change your pillow cover every night before going to bed.
