Question: Hi,

For the past 14 months I have been working in an I.T. firm. There we did programming. I enjoyed doing the same. But after a year, my work load increased and so did work pressure and stress. Don't know exactly why, but nowadays I don't enjoy the job. I feel very bored and sleepy while programming. While doing programming one needs to think a lot. Nowadays, I just can't do that. So I decided to submit resignation and look for some other job. But my resignation was rejected. I told them several times that I needed to go, but they did not listening. Last time when they called me for the meeting to discuss about the resignation, I started to shiver. From that day I used to wake up early & could not sleep afterwards. At that point I knew that it started to affect me. Then I stopped going to the job for a couple of days & I was fine after that. But I resumed going to the job about 2 days back. I could work for that day. I did not feel anything wrong. Later after reaching home I watched a game. Don't know whether it was the pressure of the game, or whether the thought of the job which came to my mind, but suddenly I became tensed and scared and I went to sleep. When I went to the office the next day, I could not continue doing the job for the whole day & I came out in the evening.

So what is wrong with me? Is there anything to worry, or is it normal? What shall I do now? Do I need to exercise or what? Can you please suggest me how to overcome this?

Brief Answer:
This is not normal

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I read your query with keen interest and opine that this is not normal. We all experience stress but when it impairs your functioning considered abnormal and as you stated that you are not able to perform on multiple occasions.

For your guidance I am mentioning few strategies which will help you to stress. Impart them in your daily routine wherever possible and you will see the effects in coming days.

1. Diet: Ensure intake of adequate quantity of fiber. Proper diet does miracles and rejuvenates. Orange is good source of anti-oxidants. Avoid junk food and fast food especially pizza, burgers and excessive sweets.

2. Ensure adequate water intake: Recommended intake of water is 2 to 3 liter a day. Insufficient intake of water could be a contributing factor in causation of symptoms.

3. Early morning Exercise: Brisk walking for 30 minutes at a stretch preferably in garden will be very helpful. Walking is the best exercise, it also promotes release of Endorphins( naturally occurring pain killers released in brain) which causes mood elevation and generalized feeling of well being. Make it a daily habit and incorporate in your lifestyle.

4. Avoid tea/coffee/ nicotine and alcoholic beverages: If at all you want to drink something, drink fresh lime water.

5. Start your day with a glass of Lemon water with 2 spoons of honey added.

6. Don't take work so seriously: We all have the feeling to excel in our respective fields and don't spend adequate time with our own self trying to understand our own needs.
The work pressure is high: Call it a day, take a short leave and hit out to picnic spot which you always wanted to go with your family and/or friends.

7. While working take frequent regular breaks: Taking regular breaks will not waste the time, but it will definitely increase the productivity, concentration and reasoning. Take break for 5 minutes every 30 minutes.

8. Avoid starring for longer time at the computer screen or TV for longer time

9. Steam inhalation before going to sleep will be very refreshing

10. Multivitamin and Calcium supplement.

I hope this will help you to certain extent.
