Suggest Treatment For Stress And Low BP

default
Posted on Mon, 9 Feb 2015
Question: I have always had low blood pressure but have been under tremendous stress at work (I am an opera director and had a big premiere in LA this past Friday) I have managed to contract a flu bug that went through the entire opera company (14 hour work days for 2 weeks). I went to the clinic to get some antibiotics - they took my pressure and it was 126/90. I weigh 105 lbs and I run 30 minutes a day 6 days a week. I did take Mucinex before I went to the clinic. Should I be concerned about my pressure reading?

Brief Answer:
Pre-hypertension

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.

Normal blood presure (BP) :
Systolic BP <120 and Diastolic BP <80 mm hg.

Pre-hypertension/High normal:
Systolic BP = 120-139 or Diastolic BP=80-89 mm hg.
You are at best pre-hypertensive.

Life-style modification like regular exercise what you are already doing and salt restriction (avoid extra-salt & salty foods) and to keep BMI (body mass index) between 20 & 25 are all that are required and at least 03 monthly BP check-up.

No medication is required now.
