Suggest Treatment For Stomach Pain And Nausea

default
Posted on Mon, 28 Nov 2016
Question: Yes. I have not had a bowel movement in three days. I am usually a twice a day person. I have stomach pains and Nausea. I pass a very small hard stool and can feel there is much more up there, as I try to strain it feels as if there is a golf ball or bigger stoppage, trying to protrude and pass. My Doctor, like most is no in on the week end. Is there something I can do for any kind of relief? Thank you for being here. This scares me as my ex wife had an aunt the died from constipation 40 some years ago. It was so hard that they were using instruments to try and get the blockage out. Sorry for the gross story. XXXX

Brief Answer:
Stool impaction

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for your query.
I'm Dr. Shuba Hariprasad and will be answering your query today.

Yes I understand what you must be feeling. Constipation is very uncomfortable.
Would you clarify a few things for me please?

*is this the first time you've been constipated?
*have you had diarrhea recently?
*do you have any other medical issues or take any medications?
*have you any any recommendations entitled illness like a cold or diarrhea?
*how is your urine? Colour and quantity?
*have you reduced water intake?
*any change in diet or new supplements?
*does it hurt when you pass that small amount of stool?

Based on your symptoms I would like to check for stool impaction.
I recommend :
-plenty of water intake (if it is not contraindicated due to medical reasons)
-natural fiber as in whole fruit and fresh vegetables especially leafy vegetables.
-if laxatives have not worked, then don't continue them.
-take liquid diet or soft solid diet till this resolves Avoid bread, pastries.
-if you haven't passed stool in two more days or if your stomach pain increases, please see your doctor or go to another one. Visit the ER if you have to.
If the stool is too hard it can be difficult to pass an may need manual evacuation or an enema.
It sounds scary but it is not safe for stool to be in so long. Can cause infection or alter the level of consciousness.

Based on your clinical findings, a colonoscopy may be required to check for other causes of blockage if there is no impaction of stool.
I sincerely hope that you feel better soon.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
Wish you good health

Yes, I have had constipation before. Never like this.
I had a tooth pulled about 2 weeks ago and it became infected and the Dr. put me on antibiotics, which always cause me some degree of constipation.
My urine is from a lite yellow to a dark yellow why it changes I have know idea.
I always drink lots of water, no alcohol or soft drinks 2 cups of coffee a day. I have slowed a little on the intake today as I am so bloated I can hardly take a deep breath let alone put anything into my stomach
No Diarrhea, no cold and no change in my diet, I did eat a hamburger with fries about three days ago but hardly ever do that. Don't eat fried or greasy foods.
The small stools don't hurt when I pass them but the strain to even get them moving is ridiculous..

Did you get my reply above 5 plus hours ago????

Brief Answer:
Please try my earlier suggestions

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir,
Just saw your replies. Sorry for the delay.

Thank you for the follow up and clarifications

I believe the antibiotics and reduced water intake could have made the constipation worse this time.

The dark color of the urine is also indicative of reduced water intake. Certain supplements like vitamin B complex can color your urine. However based on all your symptoms, seems that the water intake is less..

Please consider my earlier suggestions. If not better or discomfort gets worse, please see a doctor. I believe it is impacted stool which will relieved after its removal.

Hope I've helped. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
Get well soon sir

Regards,
Dr. Shuba Hariprasad
