Suggest Treatment For Stomach Infection

default
Posted on Fri, 1 Aug 2014
Question: Hello ,about a month ago was extremely fatigued, I was very nauseous and had stomach cramps. This lasted 4 days and the I got better. About two weeks later I had headaches and was very nauseous. I thought it was migraines. Since yesterday I started having stomach cramps, I had diarrhea yesterday in the morning. Continued feeling nauseous and very fatigued again. I'm thinking I have some sort of stomach infection that needs antibiotics. I'm usually never ever sick so I know something is no right.

Brief Answer:
Colonoscopy is necessary.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

This might be some bacterial infection of gastrointestinal tract indeed. But at your age (over 50), such symptoms can be also caused by partial bowels obstruction due to some large intestine issue (even colon cancer). This is more possible if during the cramps you get also bloated abdomen.
That is why I suggest you to do not wait with it any longer. Even if the symptoms will disappear again. Please consult your doctor, have blood work, abdominal ultrasound and stool tests. No matter if you will be prescribed antibiotic and this will help or not, colonoscopy should be scheduled and done.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
