Suggest Treatment For Stomach Cramps, Smelly Flatulence And Diarrhea

default
Posted on Mon, 29 Jun 2015
Question: Hi, a week ago I started off with 2 days of cramps in the stomach and very bad smelly flatuance. I thought that it was due to the food I ate which had onion in it. Onion and I don't do well as I have the same symptoms. It's been a week later and I have had severe cramps with bad diarrhoea ever since. When I eat, it is not even five minutes and I get the cramps and have to go to the toilet. I have stopped eating diary, and only having black tea. Even the black tea or water gives me cramps. I am still having bowel movements which are quiet yellow and watery. I do have hashimotos as well. Is it worth going to the dr or just wait it out

Brief Answer:
stomach infection; follow as advised

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Welcome to HCM.
This is Dr. Swarnava Dattagupta answering your query.

I understand your concern.
From your detailed history, it looks like a case of stomach infection. As it has continued for more than a week, medicine should be taken to tackle the infection. Also diet modification is a must too.
When such patients come to my clinic, I generally suggest the following-

Avoiding rich or junk food, taking bland and semisolid food for 2 days, taking lots of oral fluid and fresh fruits. ORS solution for 2-3 days is helpful too.
Tablet ofloxacin-ornidazole twice daily for 5 days.
Tablet drotavarine or decolic twice daily for 5 days.
Avoiding alcohol or smoking if any.
I also advise tablet pantoprazole-levosulpiride once daily for 15 days to normalise the bowel movements.

You can consult your family doctor for prescription of the above drugs. Visit to a doctor is always advised as clinical examination is an important part of deciding treatment plan which is not possible here.

Hope this was helpful.
Regards.
