Suggest Treatment For Stabbing Pain On Ankles

default
Posted on Mon, 12 Jan 2015
Question: My left ankle has been "giving out" on me for the last week and seems to be getting worse. It is a sharp stabbing pain not an ache. It is worse when I turn and oddly enough the pain will ease for a few steps if my knee pops. The only problem I've ever had with that ankle is I dislocated the bone that goes from the ankle to the knee. That happened at the age of 12. Any ideas?

Brief Answer:
Little bit more information will be helpful

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for posting
I have gone through your query and understand your concern. To help you better I would like to know -
1. Any recent injury to ankle?
2. Any swelling at ankle and what are the range of movement as compare to non affected ankle?
This could be a minor ankle sprain to lose piece of cartilage inside the joint (from old ankle dislocation).
Meanwhile you may do hot water fomentation, rest, and take ibuprofen for few days. If the pain subsides well and good, otherwise you may require further investigation like X-ray and MRI of ankle.
Looking forward to your reply
Take care

Brief Answer:
X - ray of ankle is highly recommended

Detailed Answer:
Hi
It's good to see you
I have gone through your reply carefully and the sound produced is medically known as crepitation ,a sign of early arthritis.
To assess the joint status ,X - ray is highly recommended. Please revert back with the Xray picture .Meanwhile continue with the treatment as discussed earlier to have relief from pain.
Hope this answers your query.
Regards
