Dr Honey

I am 75 yrs, average height & weight, I enjoy good health, no medication
3 days ago, my Dentist recommended I take amoxycillin 500mg ( 20 tabs )
Because I had an infected tooth.

I have not taken amoxcillin for 36 hrs

I took 3 tabs over 24 hrs, the tooth problem seems to have improved, however
I now have discomfort with my tongue .. which I think has been caused by the amoxcylin .

On the point of my tongue I have 1 or 2 little white dots .. like small ulcers, the end of my tongue is quite sore and tender if I rub it agains my teeth

This sorness has only been present for 2 days .. since commencing the amoxycillin.

I have not burnt my tongue from hot food

I have drunk aerated ( fizzy ) drinks in the past 36 hrs

I do not have tongue biting habits

I do not have any sharp edge of teeth

My tongue is still of normal color

I have bathed the tip of my tongue in clean warm water .. which seems to have slightly reduced my discomfort

Can you please suggest any other product or procedure to reduce my discomfort

It is Sunday 9-45 am in Melbourne, I am unable to see my Dentist or Doctor for another 24 hrs

Thank you

Brief Answer:
Seems like allergic reaction to Amoxicillin..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome back...

As per your answers it seems that you have developed Canker Sores with inflammation of the tongue tip as a side effect of antibiotic Amoxicillin intake..

Do not worry as the symptoms will improve gradually as the antibiotic intake will be stopped..

As of now for symptomatic relief you can start gargling with warm salt water..
Take Vitamin B complex tablet daily..
You can also apply numbing gel over. The sores and sore area of tongue to atain relief..
Avoid spicy foods..
You can also apply ice over the tongue for reducing Inflammation..

Any further questions are welcome..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
