Suggest Treatment For Sore Throat

default
Posted on Mon, 27 Jun 2016
Question: I have some kind of a sore throat. But at the same time, it feels swollen. I tried gargling with salted warm water but that only relieved me for only a few minutes. In effect, I have a hard time taking a nap (I did not get much sleep last night). Gargling with warm water seemed to help last night but not right now. What is your recommended treatment?

Brief Answer:
oral pain killers, topical sprays and gargles, cool/cold liquids

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Sore throat is most commonly caused by infection, allergies with post nasal drip, trauma to the throat, severe reflux.

Infection is most common, most infections are viral. All of the above can be associated with swelling.

In addition to gargling, you can try: (a) use of an oral pain killer particularly ibuprofen, cataflam or naproxen
(b)topical gargles or sprays such as diflam, chloroseptic spray, covonia throat spray- these are all over the counter
(c)use cool/cold liquids and food

In most viral infections, the pain can last three to five days. In some cases shorter than this.

If there is an associated fever or no improvement of symptoms then it is possible that it may be a bacterial infection and antibiotics are needed.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
