Brief Answer:
Absolute voice rest and steam inhalation

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for posting the query

Acute Laryngo-pharyngitis is usually due to viral infection which normally subsides within 3-5 days. Simple home remedies and symptomatic treatment can give you excellent relief.

My suggestions to you are:
1. Absolute voice rest for few days.
2. Drink frequent sips of warm water. This helps in reducing the congestion and pain.
3. Do steam inhalation 2-3 times a day for 3-5 minutes.
4. Take OTC medicines such as diclofenac or ibuprofen for the pain relief. Povidone iodine gargles or throat spray can be highly beneficial.
5. Avoid any sorts of cough medicines.
6. If the symptoms do not subside within 3 days, then, you need to consult your doctor for further evaluation and management.

Hope with the above measures you should get better. Revert back to me if you have any further queries.

Brief Answer:
Your medications are correct. Do steam inhalation and drink warm water.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for writing back

Most of the medicines you are taking is correct. You can continue with the same except for Gemcal plus. I would not advise you this medicine at present, because, it will induce gastritis which can worsen your cough and throat discomfort.

I would suggest you one medicine along with the above set. Medicine Bromhexine or Ambroxol or Acetylcysteine which can be tried to reduce the phlegm. If you have started the antibiotic before 3 days, then, it has to be changed after consulting your doctor or else you can continue the same along with the other medicines.

Trust me, steam is the best medicine for all your above problems along with voice rest. Drink frequent sips of warm water, it gives excellent relief. Avoid coffee, fizzy drinks and smoking (if any). Avoid whispering or raising your voice; this can damage the vocal cords.

Do not worry! Your voice will become normal with the above measures.

Wish you good health.

Thank you so much doctor. Today will be the third day of taking antibiotic roxid 150. Entire night I was coughing. So I took benz pearls may be it is for dry cough. Morning again I spitted so many times phlegm. 2 times red colored phlegm. I don't know if this is the case of coughing and not sure cold reduce or not. I don't know how my vocal will get cured since I am coughing heavily. but good part is all phlegm coming out in morning. Please advise what to do.

Brief Answer:
Antibiotics has to be changed if you are not getting better

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Welcome back

I strongly feel you should wait and watch for another couple of days. If the symptoms do not improve, get the antibiotics changed.

Secondly, cough is due to the presence of congestion in the throat and the vocal cords. Mucolytics as advised in my earlier response can give you relief from phlegm.

Do not worry! Do steam inhalation and drink frequent sips of warm water; your voice will get better with this.

Wish you good health.

Thank you doctor for very good suggestions. I went to nearby Dr and she prescribed following medication

Tablet Limber
Tablet Augmentin 1000
Solving
Aceclo-sera
Alprax 0.5

Benzoin tincture for inhalation

My health has improved in terms of mouth ulcers.
Phelgm reduced
Cough still persisting
Night time cough is excessive, it comes every 2 minutes. Couldn't sleep. So took benz pearls and I slept within few minutes. Morning when I woke up, I see couple of times red Phelgm.

Am still not recovered from loss of my voice. Don't know will I ever recover.

Are these medications fine or should I start any treatment for my voice. I will start medicine which u prescribed for Phelgm. But Phelgm has reduced from before except cough.

Thanks again lot for all the help.

Brief Answer:
Do not worry! Cough will remain for sometime...

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for writing back

This new antibiotic should help you to recover faster. Solvin is a mucolytic, so you do not need to add any other mucolytic suggested by me. Could you please let me know the content in Tab. Limber? It is good to know that there is some improvement in your present condition.

Cough will remain for sometime till the vocal cord congestion gets cleared. Steam inhalation is the only way to relieve the cough and the congestion. Please have some patience, you will recover soon. Avoid Benz pearls as much as possible.

Wish you speedy recovery.

A BIG thank you doctor. As u said I recovered pretty much. 40%improvement in Voice. Phelgm is less. But cough is more. I have medicine now just for one day. With that all tablets ll be over. Not sure cough ll go away. Dr has prescribed Adulsa cough syrup. I wonder ayurvedic syrup can be taken or not while continuing these tablets. Since I am 50% recovered and now with no medicine, should I just leave it to recover natural heal. or shall I get another set of medicine to recover another 50%. Thank you doctor. You really made me feel better and gave very good advice on medicines. Appreciate your help.

Brief Answer:
Cough will subside once the residual congestion clears off

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing back,

It's good to know that you are feeling better. The cough will remain till the residual congestion of the mucosa stays.

Continue with the medicines you were prescribed recently. Avoid any cough syrups. Trying to suppress the cough can land you up in other problems.

Continue steam inhalation for few more days till you are completely normal. You will definitely do well. God bless you with good health.
