Suggest Treatment For Sore Throat And Swelling At Back Of Throat

default
Posted on Tue, 23 Jun 2015
Question: Hi, I've had a sore throat for about 10 days now, and the sides of the back of my throat (tonsils?) have been swelling a bit and forming white spots. Parts of my throat are also coated white-ish but I can't get at it with anything to scrape it off because of my gag reflex. My tongue is coated light yellow and it won't go away no matter how much I rinse my mouth out and brush my teeth. I have a consistent headache as well. What I am most concerned about though is this giant white thing that's been sticking up the back of my throat for the past few days. Its shaped like a square and I'm assuming it's my epiglottis but I'm not entirely sure. I want to know whether I should go get this checked out or not by a doctor. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Acute follicular tonsillitis...

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for posting the query

After going through the history, I do understand that you could be suffering from Acute follicular tonsillitis. I would suggest you to consult your doctor for a complete evaluation and management. As it is a bacterial infection, you would require antibiotic for the treatment of the same. Hence, kindly consult your doctor.

Secondly, regarding the square shaped structure, it could either be the epiglottis or the enlarged lingual tonsils.

Meanwhile, continue with the same home remedies and you will feel better.

Hope I have answered your query; I will be available for the follow-up queries.
