Brief Answer:
Stabilization surgery needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

Spondylolysthesis or slipped vertebrae of lumbar vertebral column is corrected by spine surgery and is achieved by connecting vertebrae with screws and rods ( spondylodesis).

If there is compression on nerves or spinal cord, then decomprression is done too during surgery.

Displacement usually occurs if there is a minor fracture of vertebral articulations in childhood and years later after aging column slipping continues till symptoms start.

Other possible causes of vertebral displacement are trauma, degenative column disease.

Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

So hydrocephalus couldn't cause this lumbar displacement at all???? And surgery is the only way to fix it???? Or is there things we can resort to before surgery????

Brief Answer:
Physical therapy could help.

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for asking back.

Hydrocephalus is a brain condition and there are no direct relations between it and vertebral displacement.

If there is lumbar vertebral displacement confirmed by clinical data and imaging studies, then in first stages modifications of activity ( avoiding wheights, excessive bending, long standing up periods etc.) together with physical therapy ( strengthen the lumbar musculature) could help to stop further progress of disease, but is not warranted.

Surgery is the treatment of choice in moderate to severe cases.

Hope this helps. If you have further questions feel free to ask.
