Suggest Treatment For Sleeplessness Caused By Anxiety

Question: I saw my PCP last week. He did an EKG – normal. Called the sleep doctor again and updated him. Told him I thought propranolol would treat this and let me get some sleep. Told him I saw somewhere on line that this was just another form of sleep disturbance. He said I should call my psychiatrist as he had never prescribed Gabapentin. I’m a mess during the day as the tachycardia slows to 80 or 90, sleep is elusive and anxiety has been setting in even though I practice mindfulness meditation. What’s your guess?

Possibility of anxiety related sleep disturbances is more.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
In my opinion, you should consult psychiatrist and get done counselling sessions.
Try to identify stressor in your life and start working on its solution.
Propranolol is good anxiolytic drug.
Combination of propranolol and flunarizine is very good in subsiding anxiety. This combination also helps in sound sleep.
Along with drugs, counselling also plays very important role in sleep disturbances.
So better to consult psychiatrist and discuss all these.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

Darn - I only pasted part of the question. Here's the way it was intended:

I have been experiencing tachycardia at the instant of falling asleep. I have restless leg syndrome (RLS) and though it was taking a different form. My sleep doctor asked me “what do you want to do”! I told him (last week) that since I thought it was a morphed form of RLS that I should continue treating it with Gabapentin. The Gabapentin doesn’t stop it, it only lets me fall asleep despite the tachycardia.
