Suggest Treatment For Sleeplessness And Dizziness
Question: Having gone to Doctor as I had tinnitus. Had ears syringed, so now no wax. Doctor said probably amitriptyline and as I was concerned about stopping he just said you won't know unless you try. Have been trying to come off 10 mg of amitriptyline taken at night. Having sleep problems and dizziness. He did not suggest any regime for coming off. Am now concerned as not feeling good. Very tired and lethargic at times. Tinnitus still present but variable in intensity. Incidentally have been on amitriptyline for about 8 years for pain relief. IBS also now have joint pains. Probably arthritis. This could be cause of tinnitus as neck stiff also with tension.

I read your question and i understand your concern. Tinnitus is almost inevitable in old age and every 1 in 3 people have this issue. Its not a disease, its a symptom of underlying disease which could be related to age related hearing loss, vascular disease, ear bone changes, wax blockages of ear ( ears syringed indicates you had wax deposition as well ), side effect of medications etc.
Amitriptyline does not worsen tinnitus, it rather helps tinnitus. Treat the underlying cause, avoid the triggers for it, use some masking device, like white noise machines, hearing aids or tinnitus retraining devices. Gingko biloba, zinc supplements and vitamins specially B complex have proven help.
