Brief Answer:
Poor sleep could be due to long term withdrawal symptoms of opioids

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for providing details

Zolpidem is a drug that belongs to Z-drugs class and the drug can help in early stages of insomnia or in individuals who have difficulty in falling asleep and it usually acts for short duration. So increasing the dose of drug would make you sleepy and drowsy only and this would not help in refreshing sleep.

Spasmoproxyvon is an OPIOID drug and prolonged withdrawal (protracted withdrawal) symptoms could be the reason for your poor sleep. Zolpidem cant do much in these withdrawal symptoms. In such case I would advise you to kindly visit a psychiatrist and get yourself evaluated. Medicines like Pregabalin in evening times can help to reduce the craving of drug and will make you sedated and help in sleep. Along with this Benzodiazepines like Lorazepam, Nitrazepam can help in sleeping and long acting preparations of these drugs will help in maintenance of sleep. Even with benzodiazepines you cant sleep then Trazodon or Mirtazapine can help, both drugs are good antidepressants and help in sleep. I usually use Quetiapine (though the drug is an anti-psychotic but off-label it helps in sleep) in low doses for patients of opioid withdrawal (even long term withdrawal) for sleep. The drug helps in good sleep and also maintains sleep in evening.

All these are prescription medicines and need proper prescription. Please don't use high doses of Zolpidem as this may make you more and more dependent and you would develop tolerance to its actions.

Thanks, hope this helps you. Please don't hesitate to ask again for more doubts.

Hi
I have consulted a psychiatrist regarding sleep disturbance
He put me on mirtaz 30 for mood swings and sleep
I took it for 2 days but I don't like it as it makes me very drowsy and makes me feel lifeless.
I stopped it completely
I stopped zolpidem completely since 2 days
Is that ok?
I thought I will try to sleep on my own as fatigue will definitely make me sleep

Brief Answer:
The drug should be started with low dose for sleeping

Detailed Answer:
Hello again, I hope you are doing good

If you have taken Mirtaz 30 for 2 days only and are feeling drowsy then you can stop taking it. No need to fear as this would not result in withdrawal. Mirtazapine should have been advised with low doses like 7.5 mg per day and then doses should be escalated to 15-30 mg per day depending upon the response. Starting the drug with high dose probably resulted in side effects of drowsiness. Discuss with your doctor and then ask for low doses of drug. Mirtazapine help in sleep at 7.5-15 mg doses and at high doses this drug has not much effect on sleep.

Yes if you have stopped Zolpidem its ok, but try to sleep by own and if you have any difficulty in sleeping then consult your doctor.

Thanks, please ask again for more doubts.

Stopping zolpidem suddenly won't cause any problems as such??
And is there any sleep aid which is not addictive ?

Answered by Dr. Seikhoo Bishnoi (5 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Zolpidem doses should be reduced gradually

Detailed Answer:
Hello

You were taking high doses of Zolpidem since a good time and as per my opinion abrupt stoppage may result in withdrawal symptoms in form of insomnia, restlessness, dizziness some times even seizures can occur in first week of withdrawal. So try to reduce the doses by gradual tapering as about 20% doses a week and this would reduce any withdrawal.

You were addicted to spasmoproxyvon and this can be the reason for your disturbed sleep. Medicines like Pregabalin or Gabapentine can help to reduce craving and will help in sleep also. Please discuss with your doctor for the prescription of these drugs. For sleep medicines like Quetiapine can be used. The drug is not addictive drug and can help in sleep without any serious side effects. This has been found to be useful in addiction patients also.

Thanks
