Question: Hi Doctor ,

I have a habit of sleeping late night around 2:00 AM and waking up around 9:00 AM or 10:00 AM . I really want to change this habit of sleeping and I would like to wake up early in the morning and for some reason - I do not hear my alarm sound and even though I hear - I am very lazy to wake and turn off the alarm . Can you help me with tips of waking up early morning and sleeping early to bed .

Brief Answer:
Go to bed early

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I read your query and understand your concerns about delayed sleep and awakening.

First of allI like to inform you that it is behavioral issue and unlikely to get any help with medications.

There are two things you can do.

1. Gradually decrease the awakening time by 15 minutes every day. For example you can start with 8;45 alarm followed by 8;30 on next day, 8;15, 8;00 and so on.

At the same time go for bed early in similar manner very day.

2. The second but better strategy is to have a early awakening with all your efforts even if you slept well. The body responds to your needs and within a period of one week it will adjust to sleep early and there will be early awakening.

In case both of these methods do not applicable to you we can think of using Agomelatine about half an hour before intended time to go to sleep. This is a medication which restores your biological clock which will ultimately help you to have sleep at normal time.

I hope this answers you.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
