Suggest Treatment For Sinus Pressure In Head And Right Ear

default
Posted on Sat, 15 Nov 2014
Question: Hi. I went to the Dr. yesterday for sinus pressure in my head & right ear. While I was there, I was told I had low oxygen levels. My Dr. said I shouldn't worry about it, but I am worrying. I wonder, could the low oxygen level be due to the sinus pressure? I suffer from chronic sinus problems. I have never been told I have low oxygen before. Thanks.

Brief Answer:
You need to rule out pulmonary and cardiac causes.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,

Thanks for your question on HCM.

Oxygenation is taken care by lungs and heart. Sinuses have no role in it. Sinuses are useful in humidification of inhaled air and in speech. So I don't think any connection between sinus problem and low oxygenation.

I want to ask you few questions.
1. Are you smoker?
2. Are you having any respiratory symptoms like breathlessness or cough?
If any of the above is present than chances of pulmonary cause is more likely for low oxygenation.
First, I advice you to recheck your oxygenation. If it is normal than no need to worry.

And if it is low than you need some investigations.
1. Chest x ray and Pulmonary Function Test (PFT) to rule out pulmonary causes.
2. ECG and 2D Echo to rule out cardiac cause for your low oxygenation.
So consult your doctor and discuss these things.

Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further.

Wish you good health.

Thanks.
