Question: Hello my husband daughter has sickle cell anemia. She is caucasian and I am wondering about this. They know little about the daughters mother. XXXXXXX mother, my husband ex wife, was adopted and my husband divorced her years ago. She was unfaithful to him. Can a white person get this?

There is no standard treatments which can cure sickle cell anemia.

However, we can help people manage and live with the disease.

Treatment can be given to relieve pain, prevent infections, minimize organ damage, and control complications. This may include pain relievers, antibiotics, vitamins, vaccinations and hydroxyurea.

Sometimes blood transfusion may be required.
