Question: Our son who is 25 is experiencing sharp abdominal pains accompanied by vomiting violently. He was diagnosed with CiDiff back in 2012 after being treated at the local hospital for food poisoning while in the military. He was well until about 2 months ago when the pains and vomiting returnd. He is currnetly hopitalised locally and is given intraveneous pain medication every 2 hours to control the pain. We just recently at the VA hospital in Mpls. Mn for 3 days where they did a complet upper and lower GI with a scope, they took a biopsy of his stomach and found positive for H-poly Bacteria. The Drs, here do not think that that would cause his severe pain,Now they said they found traces of THC in his blood as well as barbituates, even though he has not smoked weed in a long time and has never used needles. The only needles are the ones the hospital has been using to control pain. we don n ot know what to do, HELP!

The medications already tried are for nausea and anxiety with no relief. Most medicines taken by mouth are almost immediatly vomited. It seems that the pains are getting worse as they have had to up the doses to relieve the pain to the point that he will stop breathing. Also at one point complaied about a sharp pain in his chest so they did a ultra sound but found nothing.

Brief Answer:
Abdominal pain and vomiting ?cause

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
Your son's symptoms might be partly due to withdrawal effects from THC/polydrug abuse .However possible organic causes need to be ruled out.
One of the puzzling cause of abdominal pain is Acute intermittent porphyria in which abdominal pain is often severe and poorly localized and Barbiturates commonly precipitate symptoms and treatment can be problematic.
Mesentric vascular ischemia is also another cause of obscure abdominal pain.
Your treating doctors will be the best person to assess and carry out further investigations to reach a conclusion.Till such time symptomatic measures and supportive cares are needed to relieve his complaints.

Brief Answer:
H.Pylori infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.

I feel you son has been treated by best of hands and he has recovered.
H.Pylori infection tends to recur. However reinfection after successful eradication of H. pylori is rare in the United States (<1% per year). If recurrent infection occurs within the first 6 months after completing therapy, the most likely explanation is recrudescence as opposed to reinfection.
Certain probiotics like Lactobacillus or its metabolites can
inhibit H. pylori. Your son can include yogurt from cow's milk in his diet.
