Posted on Tue, 19 Jan 2016
Question: In the last 2 months i have all of a sudden felt like i had the flu three times. I instantly throw up and continue to do so on and off for 24 hours and i am very tired while this happens then i am fine. I have never thrown up as an adult like this before. I am generally a healthy 44 year old no problems as an adult until now. Also when I eat it feels like my food gets stuck right before it goes to my stomach and is painful a few times i have had to try and bring it back up.

Brief Answer:
You need a detailed ENT examination, soft diets and antibiotics for flu

Detailed Answer:
Hi! Welcome to health care magic!

Based on the history you have shared, the repeated presentations with flu leading to throwing up can be due to upper respiratory tract infection which may have not subsided since its initial presentation or might have recurred over and again. You need a detailed ENT examination to look for any enlargement of tonsils. This feeling of stucking of food into throat can also be due to tonsillitis. However other causes of swallowing difficulty also needs to be ruled out through detailed throat examination or endoscopy if needed to rule out causes relating to . Meanwhile taking soft diets and hot beverages will benefit with both. In case vomiting troubles you, discuss using domperidone before meals for better motility with your GP. Keep a check on symptoms like fever or weight loss and get your blood screened out for complete blood count if these symptoms appear.

Hoping you a speedy recovery. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Regards.

i had my tonsils and adnoids removed. The food gets stuck right below where my ribs end right above my stomach. It feels like when you swallow your food and you didn't chew it well. But i have and small bites. it won't go all the way down if i drink something it piles up. That all started right I after I had my last child it was a emergency c sec and i was thinking something was damaged from the breathing tube ...could that be a possibility? Also i get heartburn atleast 4 to 5 times a week extremely painful. When I was pregnant I had heartburn straight the whole nine months. No relief but since only the 4 or 5 times a week.

Brief Answer:
You need to have oesophageogastrodudenscopy (endoscopy)

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for sharing the history in a detailed and comprehensive manner. Based on the history you have shared, i would suggest to have an oesophageogastrodudenscopy (endoscopy) at earliest, which is a few minute procedure and visualises inside your stomach and starting part of small intestine all the way through your food pipe and is most reliable test in this regard to exactly formulate the cause of the symptoms you have shared. The relation with pregnancy or intubation can be with hiatal hernia but it can be diagnosed on endoscopy alongwith any other causative condition. Meanwhile take soft diets. Avoid fizzy drinks, spicy food and greasy diets You can use antacids like omeperazole or pantoprazole before meals after discussing with your GP. Hoping you a speedy recovery. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Regards.
