Brief Answer:
Possible stomach problem. If not better, then go to the ER (emergency room)

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using HCM to post your health question.

I read it and I understand your mother's concern.

The place where you are describing the pain its not typical for a kidney pain. So in a way we rule it out.
-- If the pain its like burning/ache sensation, localized in the central upper area and affected by food, then I would think of a stomach ache problem. In this case, she can take Omperazole 20 mg, or lansoprazole 15 mg, once/day before food for 2 weeks. She should feel relieved after taking the first tablet, and also those do not interfere with her liver functions.
-- If the pain its dull and localized on the right then it may be a pain from the gallbladder or even the liver. So she should talk with her liver doctor and make sure that everything its going on in that side.
-- If the pain its localized in the heart area, then the heart problems are possible problems to keep in mind. In this case she should do an ECG and check if everything its ok. I would say that if the pain gets worse after taking the Omeprazole (stomach tablet) or its not getting better, then take her to the ER to do check-ups.

Hope this is helpful.
