Suggest Treatment For Severe Sore Throat

default
Posted on Sat, 11 Feb 2017
Question: I have a sore throat for five weeks, with various levels of pain, from quite painful (9 of 10) to 3 of ten. I was diagnosed with pickeye on Dec 27, treated w. Antibiotics and cleared up. For the last two the muscles on both sides of my throat have become stiff and sore. About 4 years ago, I suffered greatly 10of10 with a pain I discribed as a hot oiler in my right hip joint joint. After seeing three doctors because of the terrible pain, I woke up with a case of shingles. Treated successfully. This past Sat AM, as I got up from breakfast table, I experienced a severe pain in my left hip joint. This comes and goes in intensity but is always there. I have not and do not a fever. Ne headache. I was wondering if meningitis might be in the picture,
I am a 69 year old retired clergyman.

Brief Answer:
Meningitis less likely

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting the question.

I have gone through your medical history in detail.

From the stated symptoms ,it seems less likely that this could be meningitis.

1.The pain in the left hip joint could be either due to a strain or chronic conditions like avascular necrosis of femoral head or an arthritis.

A xray and an MRI of the hip joint would be helpful to find out the exact cause.

At present, you can take anti-inflammatory analgesic tablets like tramadol, paracteamol, etodolac for hip pain.

Avoid squatting or sitting cross legged for long periods of time.

Do let me know once the Xray / MRI reports are ready.

2.The sore and stiff throat that you mentioned may be due to unrelieved upper respiratory tract infection causing fibrosis of the throat internal mucosa.

You need to consult a ENT physician and get a indirect laryngoscopy done. You may need to be started on broad spectrum antibiotics for the throat infection.

I hope the answer was useful.

Feel free to ask me any follow up queries that you may have.

Thank you.

Kind regards.
