Suggest Treatment For Severe Sore Throat

default
Posted on Mon, 14 Sep 2015
Question: I went to my doctor for a bad sore throat and she said I had some wax in my ear and recommended Debrox for removal. My ear wasn't clogged before I used it but now it is and I've even started using Sudafed (recommended by my pharmacist which so far isn't doing anything either). Any suggestions? Many thanks!!

Brief Answer:
a throat swab culture may be helpful.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing your query.
After reading your post, I would suggest that you should get following investigations done :-
1. Throat swab culture/sensitivity.
2. Complete Blood Count ( CBC ).
You may take an antihistamine like Fexofenadine 120 mg once a day for relief from your symptoms of sore throat. Warm saline gargles will have added benefits.
An ENT evaluation and reports of the above mentioned investigations will help in planning further medical management.
I hope this is helpful to you. If you have any further query, I will be happy to help.
Regards. Thanks.

Thank you for getting back to me, but my throat is fine now. The problem is my left ear is clogged ever since I used the wax remover. It was fine before I used it. As also stated, I even tried Sudafes, per my pharmacist but it's not helping. Amny suggestions? Thank you.

Brief Answer:
nasal decongestant spray may help.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your response.
I would suggest that you should stop taking Sudafed. Instead use Oxymetazoline nasal spray twice daily for 3-5 days.
You can contact your ENT specialist for removal of wax, if present.
I hope this answers your query. If you have any further doubts, please mention.
Thanks.
