default
Posted on Thu, 3 Sep 2015
Question: Hi I have just started to get an extremely sore throat yesterday. Last night it was very painful but this morning my throat isn't sore but when I move my neck my glands are very sore. I can also see little white blister like things on my glands when I look into my mouth. I'm just wondering what it might be and if I should go to my GP now or wait a bit longer ? Thank you

Brief Answer:
usually due to viral infection

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

You can wait a little longer because short term sore throat and lesions in the back of the throat are usually due to viral infections and they resolve on their own with time (normally a few days).

The pain of the lymph nodes/glands is part of the normal inflammatory response to infection.

In some cases the sore throat and pain in the neck can be due to bacterial infection but in that case, the sore throat would last a lot longer and would be associated with a persistent fever.

For your symptoms, the main aspect of treatment would be pain medication as needed, fluids , rest if needed.
Anti inflammatory pain medication such as ibuprofen, naproxen, aspirin would be best.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
