Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In Knees During Cold Weather

default
Posted on Thu, 27 Aug 2015
Question: I am 21. On July 8th, 2014 I was in a car accident during which I suffered great blows to my knees and my right forearm. My knees feel (I don't know how else to describe the feeling) arthritic? They are affected by cold and rain and excessive use. A constant dull pain is now a normal thing. My arm has a hemotoma in it. After a year, the MRI I had done last week shows it has started to break up which my Doc. says he "supposes is due to normal healing". I have reduced strength and stamina in my arm and it also has a constant dull ache and tention that runs from my wrist to my shoulder and neck sometimes causing migraines. My Doc. says there isn't much we can do medically and with time, my injuries should heal. These injuries not only impact my everyday life, they impact my ability to do my job. I'm 21. I shouldn't be in this much pain on the daily. I need a second opinion so here is my question: Are the concerns I'm having about my injuries legitimate and if so what kind of doctor should I be seeing for these specific kinds of injuries ( personal recommendations are appreciated )?

Brief Answer:
Knee post traumatic arthritis, Arm nerve compression

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

Thanks for the query.

According to your history you seem to be suffering from a post traumatic knee arthritis as this tends to get worse in cold weather and on movement. The symptoms in your arm suggest nerve compression in the neck or around the shoulder.

Since you have suffered the trauma a year ago and your are still having these symptoms you need to get them assessed by a proper physician.

Avoid climbing stairs, cross leg sitting, squatting, weight lifting. Eat healthy. Keep well hydrated. Avoid smoking, alcohol and junk food. Brisk walking for 45 minutes a day provided your health allows, will do wonders. Avoid bending the neck forward. Adopt good posture and follow ergonomics at work.

You cab take pain killer and muscle relaxant combination like Diclofenac and Thicolchicoside tablet for relief. Apply hot water bottle to the areas of pain in the neck, arm and knees. Also apply pain killer gel for relief.

You need to see an Orthopaedician or Joint specialist and Neurologist to get assessed for knee arthritis and nerve compression respectively for a thorough examination and necessary investigations like Xray or MRI and nerve conduction studies.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available for follow up queries.

Thanking you.

Brief Answer:
Orthopaedic surgeon, Joint specialist, Neurologist

Hi there.

Thanks for the follow up query.

Yes. An Orthopaedician is also known as an Orthopaedic surgeon.

You could consult with Joint specialists like Dr. S. XXXXXXX Stulberg at Northwestern Memorial Hospital or Dr. XXXXXXX Berger at Rush Medical Centre or surgeons at Illinois bone and Joint centre.

A joint surgeon will be the best bet for treating your condition.

Hoping for a speedy recovery.

I hope I have answered your query.
