Brief Answer:
Need a few more details about the pain.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

I require a few more details to assess your pain and suggest you some methods to that could provide some relief from neck pain.
Firstly can you describe the pain more? Where exactly does it occur? Which side and how severe is the pain on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being severe-most. On doing any activity, does the pain get exacerbated; like bending your neck, or coughing or straining? Does the pain stay in the neck or does it go to the lower head or arm or shoulder? Any sensory symptoms like numbness or tingling in the arms?
Any recent history of lifting weights or having a fall?
Please get back with the answers and I could suggest a plan of management.

Regards,
Pradeep

Brief Answer:
It is probably a cervical strain.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Going through your symptoms it looks like a cervical strain and let me assure you that it generally improves spontaneously. Though you will need to take a few more precautions in the future. For the pain you can start having Paracetamol 650 mg twice to thrice daily depending on the severity of pain. Since it is more intense in the evenings, you should take an Aceclo-MR at that time as it also has a muscle relaxant. I am assuming you do not consume alcohol, and if you do, you should not partake of alcohol when on these medications. Also there should be no liver issues.

In the future once the pain comes down, you need to visit a physical therapist and learn some neck exercises which are very simple and essentially involve slow movement against mild resistance to the sides, flexing and extending neck etc. Also ask for exercises that would strengthen your trapezium and neck strap muscles. All these would strengthen your neck muscles and hold the cervical spine in position. Do not carry heavy backpacks etc on the shoulders. If it doesn't decrease in another week, it would be better to get an Xray of the cervical spine and depending on what it shows further management can be planned.
Hope this helps. If you have any clarifications, do get back.

Regards,

Pradeep

PS: Aceclo-MR is a prescription drug. All these medications need to be taken after having food.
