Brief Answer:
usually viral, will settle in a few days

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
Usually loose stools is viral infection at this age.
It will settle in a few days.
Antibiotics are not recommended unless there is blood in stools.
What I usually recommend for such kids in my clinic is
1. Probiotic like bifilac one XXXXXXX twice daily for a few days.
2. Frequent breastfeeding to keep him hydrated.
Ensure that he passes urine atleast six to eight times a day.
This will indicate that the hydration is being maintained.
If he becomes dull with poor intake and less urine consult with your pediatrician.
Wishing your child speedy recovery.
Regards
Dr Arun
