Suggest Treatment For Severe Headaches And Sinus Infection

default
Posted on Thu, 8 Dec 2016
Question: My son has had severe headaches for about a year now. He has been on several migraine related prescriptions but none seem to help. He has now been in bed for the last 2 weeks with the constant pain in his left temple. He is on Co-codamol and had a Diclofenac injection yesterday but nothing seems to stop the pain. He is awaiting a neurological appointment at the moment but I'm starting to wonder whether it is something more serious even though his CT scan 2 months ago showed his brain clear but had a massive infection in his sinuses. He was given antibiotics for the infection. He also had blood in his urine recently which was attributed to a kidney stone, although no scan was done.

Brief Answer:
Spreading of infection to be considered.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Since massive infection of sinuses was found in CT scan, and there is significant headache, spreading of infection inside the skull (brain) should be taken in consideration and excluded.

It is necessary for your son to get evaluated by a Neurologist and to have done a more appropriate brain imaging study such MRI to evaluate conditions such meningitis, encephalitis, cerebritis etc.

If serious conditions after these evaluations will be excluded, primary headaches (such cluster headaches, migraine, tension type) should be the cause of these symptoms.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Kind regards.
