Suggest Treatment For Severe Headaches And Fever

default
Posted on Fri, 21 Aug 2015
Question: i have a terrible headache. Normally I would think it was a migrane headache but I also have had swollen glands in my neck for two days. Do you think i should go to an emergency room? I do not have a fever. I have had migranes before and this feels like a migrane but the swollen glands have me worried.

Brief Answer:
Swollen lymph nodes generally not related symptoms of migraine

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for using HCM to post your health query.

If you have been suffering from migraine and this feels like your usual migraine, then do not worry about it, because the swollen glands may be just a coincidence.

The fact that you have not fever is a good sign, but also wait and see if other symptoms start like sore throat, runny nose, general fatigue when the migraine is calmed down, ect...

I would recommend to treat your migraine as you usually do, and keep an eye on the swollen glands. I they are not tender, if they are not getting smaller in 2 weeks time, if you have other symptoms which are getting worse and not better, then consider doing a visit to your local doctor who may evaluate those.

Generally, the lymph nodes in the neck are not causes of serious problems, but its better to check if worse or not better.

Hope this is helpful.
Let me know if you need more clarification.

Dear Dr. Papaqako,
thank you for your reply. I feel calmer now. I am of course worried about something serious like meningitis. I am guessing there would be fever with something serious. Is this true?
Many thanks, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Yes would be fever, but a bad general condition is a more worrisome sign

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX

Thank you for asking a follow-up question.

Surely for meningitis would be very high fever, the neck would be stiff and painful to move, the general condition would be really bad (all the body would hurt and you would feel really tired).

Any other concerns? Let me know.
Otherwise please close and rate the question.

Take care.
