Question: I have been noticing hair loss over the last few years but seems more rapid this last 12 months. My hair is really thin now (maybe I've lost 40% of my hair), hair is very very brittle, and my nails are brittle prone easy breakage. My Thyroid levels are in the normal range (my free T4 is 1.17 ng/dL out of normal range of 1.46, my TSH is .74 out of 5.04 normal range). I had iron deficiency but that was resolved a few months ago with my taking 45units of Iron Supplements per day and I continue to take it. My vitamin B12 and Vitamin D are normal. My doctor says she can't help me as all of my blood tests look normal but I am extremely concerned that she is overlooking something. I am 47 years old and have normal periods. I'm a little overweight (159pounds for a person 5'4"). Are there any other diagnositc tests which can be done to pinpoint cause of hair loss? Are there any treatments to stop further hair loss?
