Suggest Treatment For Severe Hair Loss

Question: Respected Doctor,

I hereby sought your advice in treating severe harifall (across the scalp) that I am facing for more than 4 years. I am currently 27 now. When my hair started falling out in huge number, my family physician asked me to do an USG and the report revealed cystic ovary (I also did a Thyroid test and the results were absolutely fine). However, I exhibited no symptom of PCOS (like irregular menstruation, acne, weight gain etc) except hairfall and hirsutism. Doctor prescribed me Ginette 35 cyclically. I consumed Ginette 35 for 2 and half years but it didn't help in hair loss. I have visited many dermatologists for this problem but none could help. Recently, a doctor prescribed me Androanagen. I am skeptical to take this medicine as I have hirsutism and am afraid it might aggravate the growth of my facial as well as overall body hairs. I got married a year back and I would like to seek your advice whether this medicine can affect adversely in conceiving. In my present age and situation (hirsutism, marriage and all), what should I do to arrest harifall without any side effect? Also, how long are these treatments needed? Do I have to take them indefinitely?
Please suggest me a diet also for this.
This problem is emotionally devastating and I cannot take this anymore. Please please help me.

Brief Answer:
Androgenetic alopecia most likely.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for asking Health care magic forum.

I have gone through your query.Your problem is most likely androgenetic alopecia. Androanagen tablet contains all necessary Vitamins (like Biotin, Folic Acid etc) along with Green tea extracts and Saw Palmetto which are known to block DHT, naturally and without any side-effects. DHT inhibitors will help in such type of hair fall but a long term therapy is needed. Ginette 35 you take also act as a contraceptive. So if you are planning to get pregnant you should discontinue all these with the advise of a gynecologist before conception.
Another medication you can use for androgenetic alopecia is minoxidil lotion for application on scalp. It also take 3 to 4 month to get benefit and you should continue long term.
You should also get rid off stress as it also increases hair fall. You can perform stress relaxing exercises like breathing exercises.
You should include following in diet:
1. Eat at least 3-4 different fruits saplings per day. Every fruit is good but you can make a combination of sour with sweet fruits such as oranges, papaya and other of seasonal fruits.

2. Pulses are good source of proteins. So everyday have a small bowel full of mixed pulses. Add green leafy vegetables additionally in the pulses which contains lot of iron and vitamins in it.

3. Sprouts are the best source of fibers, minerals especially iron, vitamins and proteins too. so add it at-least alternate day if you can not make in every-day's part of meal.

4. Over night soaked and peeled almonds will give you good vitamin E which is good for the hair growth.

5. Milk and milk products should be included in every-day's schedule.

Hope this may help you.Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks

Respected Doctor,

Thanks a tonne for your invaluable advice. I would like to add few more points in this regard.
1. I also suffer from severe dandruff. Have tried n no. of things (Ketoconazole, and lotions of same kind) but every time I stopped using them, dandruffs were back. Don't know if that adds to my harifall as well. If so, is there any permanent solution to this menace?
2. My father and his male ancestors are genetically bald. Did I inherit that gene too?
3. My Hirsutism problem was serious. I am not too bothered with hairs on my body but the main concern was that I had thick facial hairs (on upper lips, chin and cheeks). It became a social stigma after a certain age and hence I underwent laser hair removal for more than 5 years. It slowly yielded result and I think Ginette 35 helped too. I read in a post of this site that a person consuming androanagen has noticed growth in bodily hair (http://www.healthcaremagic.com/questions/What-are-the-side-effects-of-ANDROANAGEN/977970). I am afraid that Androanagen might stimulate facial hair growth that I so painfully removed over years.. While I need to get my hairs back on my scalp, I dont want them on my face. I seek your assurance in this regard.
4. I have discontinued Ginette 35 from last 5 months (I have no plans to conceive as of now) although Ginette gave me no side-effects except mood swings. Would you advice me to start that as well?
5. Lastly, is androanagen safe to consume during pregnancy? For how long do I have to apply minoxidil?

Regards.

Hi
Thank you for your follow up query.
1.Dandruff is shedding of dead cells from scalp. But some get it more. You can get rid off it by regularly using medicated shampoos. In such cases i advise ketoconazole shampoo weekly twice and coal tar shampoo regularly other days.
2.Androgenetic alopecia is also heriditary. So you could have acquired like that.
3.Androanagen doesn't have a side effect of facial hair growth as it suppress androgen.
4.If you tolerating Ginette 35 well you can continue with the advise of your treating doctor.
5.Androanagen shouldn't be consumed during pregnancy.Minoxidil should be continued long term.It shouldn't be discontinued after using as there were many cases reported that the effects are reversed after stopping.
