Question: Hello Doctor,
First i would like to share my recent med test report. please access by below link
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B79wrXl6EZ-pd2l2Y1dhRjNfR3M/view?usp=sharing.
I had done these tests primary bcoz a doc here at HCM had recommend so as to find the root cause of my hair thinning and hair fall.
Recently i had visited a dermatologist for the above problem . He says that i am suffering from androgenic alopecia or male patter badness.
My current state is that I have very thin hair and very small bald patches forming.
Please have a look by accessing the below link
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B79wrXl6EZ-pRWZvM3NNaEhZSWs?usp=sharing
He prescibed some meds . U can have a look by accessing the below link
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B79wrXl6EZ-pOFVHSFVPdTFLMXM/view?usp=sharing
Can you please confirm what these meds are?
I think the first one is 5 % minoxidil solution for topical application .
The second one i guess has finasteride. Is it safe to take finasteride as i have low Testosterone levels? Finastradine has some nasty side effects i read
online like impotence, trouble having an orgasm and swelling of breasts. I think i also have gynacomastia for your reference my HEIGHT is 173 cm ,
weight is 75 kg and waist is 37 inch at belly. I have not confirmed from a doc if i have gynacomastia.
My concern is will Finastradine aggravate gynacomastia ?
I am an unmarried male(25 yrs) and will i have sexual problems later in life because of Finastradine ? Are these symptoms only temporary and is it safe to
take for a person like me who has low Testosterone?
I have read that androgenic alopecia is caused by high levels of dihydrotestosterone. And excess of Testosterone is converted to DHT .If i have
low levels of Testosterone then there are low levels of DHT. Then why am i suffering from Androgenic alopeica?
Also I have read that minoxidil first increases the hair fall and then slowly stop the hairfall. Will i regain my lost hair ? what if it doesn't work for
me while it aggravate my condition?
Is my past history of taking pan tablets cause for hair fall?
Please let me know if anything is missing . Please suggest me what to do?

Brief Answer:
About minoxidil and finasterid.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I read carefully your concerns.
All your hesitations on using both minoxidil or finasterid are right.
The most probable cause of your hair fall is genetic tendency.
Having into consideration the mechanism of action, i would suggest to use minoxidil.
In most of the cases the hair fall is agravated during the first months of treatment but within 6 months you will have the desired effect.
Well, it may have side effects (as you may have read) but will not influence the hormonal level as finasterid does.
While on finasterid, decreased sexual ability/desire may occur. In some men, this medication can decrease the amount of semen released during sex. This is harmless, but has continued in some men even after stopping treatment ( even though rare cases).
To confirm the gynecomastia a clinical evaluation is helpful.
Of course lowering the testosterone level with finasterid may aggravate it.
So i would suggest to use minoxidil 5% in your case.
Regarding to pantoprazol, i have never seen such side effect and it is not reported in literature the male pattern boldness.
As i said before genetic tendency is the most probable cause.
Hope the information is helpful.
Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta

Brief Answer:
You should use for several years.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back!
If you stop using Minoxidil you will have adverse effects and will, within a few months time, begin losing your hair again. Minoxidil is a long term solution.

Hello Doc,

Thanks for the quick reply.
Is minoxidil enough for my condition? Can finasteride completly cure my condition in a shorter time than minoxidil?

Is it worth to to take finasteride considering its side effects and assuming that it can cure the condition ? Is finasteride also a long term solution and if i take it and later STOP it will i again have hair loss and go back to a worse state than before?

Also my local doc on investigation says that i do have gyancomastia.

for your reference my HEIGHT is 173 cm , weight is 75 kg , waist is 38 inch at belly and chest is 37 inch .

Are there any medicines to cure gyancomastia? what are the side effects .
If not is surgery the only solution?

Thanks a lot !!! :-)

Brief Answer:
About alopecia and gynecomastia.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again,
To give you a proper answer regarding the best treatment of alopecia the clinical examination is very important. If it is considerable hair loss, probably both minoxidil and finasterid would be needed (always after your approval to use finasterid). Than after a period of time you may remove finasterid and use only minoxidil.
Regarding gynecomastia, it can't be diagnosed with chest perimeter. If the glandular tissue is thicker than 2 cm in palpation, gynecomastia is confirmed.
First you need to see and endocrinologist in person to evaluate the stage of gynecomastia. He may ask further hormonal exams and exclude other factors or pathologies that may cause it.
The treatment of the cause (if found) will improve gynecomastia.

Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta
