Brief Answer:
Paba supplements...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Premature greying is not uncommon. There are many people in 30's who have early hair greying. The cause is unknown probably linked to genetic causes. There are handful of products including get away grey claiming to stop and reverse hair greying. But most of those are not clinically proven to permanently arrest or reverse hair greying. What I generally suggest to my patients is to use hair coloring agents and dyes for cosmetic reasons. There are many natural and good hair colors in the market which are very effective in masking grey hairs.

However for a few patients who insists to try supplements, I suggest paraminobenzoic acid (PABA). There are few studies in the past that PABA supplementation is able to arrest hair greying. You can try and see if it helps you.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need clarifications.

Brief Answer:
Mixed response in my patients...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

As I mentioned in my previous response, paba supplement is not my frontline treatment for premature hair greying. This is because we do not have robust studies to convincingly prove its efficacy. But there were few small scale studies performed in the past decades which showed satisfactory results. I have asked my patients (about 6 to 8) who didn't accept hair coloring as the best treatment for hair greying. And the results after 2 - 3 months were not always positive.

You may try this supplement for couple of months and see if you notice changes / improvement.

PABA is an chemical compound found in folic acid. This is a very safe supplement with no significant side effect when taken in a dose upto 500mg (the dose I prescribed to my patients). You can check with your dermatologist / primary care doctor.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if you need clarifications.
