Posted on Tue, 6 Jun 2017
Question: I have been straining with diarrhea since breakfast this AM, approximately, 8:AM; first loose stool occurred at approximately 11:45 AM. Time is now 9:00 PM. All food consumption subsequent to first loose stool seems to lead to same problem. Most recent movement, was accompanied by faint bloody staining following straining to complete what appeared to be another bowel movement as indicated by straining, but which was unsuccessful.

Brief Answer:
fluid and electrolyte replacement, probiotics, hold off solids

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

In most cases, there is no need to strain when having diarrhea because the loose stool flows very easily but every one responds differently to conditions.
Straining normally occurs with constipation

Since you are having diarrhea, you would need to consider: (1) holding off all solid food till there is at least a 4 hour window with no symptoms.
At this time, the bowel/intestine wall is inflamed and irritated, it cannot absorb any food.

When this 4 hour period passes then you can restart with the banana or dry foods such toast, biscuits, plain rice

(2) probiotics either on their own or in yogurt help shorten the course of diarrhea

(3)fluids are very important to prevent or treat dehydration. Oral hydration fluids or dilute sport drinks such as gatorade (because also have fluid and electrolytes), can be used to help replace what you are losing

(4)with diarrhea, pepto bismol can also be helpful

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
