default
Posted on Fri, 18 Sep 2015
Question: I have had diarrhea & dehydration for 8 weeks. Been to 4 hospital ERs, all Dx diverticulitis. Been on two sessions of 2 antibiotics and a few other meds. Soonest appt with gastro doc (made 4wks ago) is Sept 9. Also had colonoscopy 2wks ago out of town and it only showed mild diverticulitis. Sonogram clear. Severe stomach pain. No brown poop, only pinkish/marooning mucus. Any other suggestions?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking.
I read carefully all your concerns and I can say as follows:

1. You are reporting to have pinkish mucous, diarrhea and dehydration for 8 weeks. This can be explained with diverticulitis. Since on colonoscopy there was no other mucosa damage than other issues like IBD are ruled out.

2. At this situation I would suggest to perform the following exams to:
- coproculture
- fecal blood test
- blood work
- serological test for infection disease
to rule out/confirm bowel infection disease.

3. You are reporting to have severe stomach pain, which may be related with bowel peristaltic, gastroenteritis, antibiotic side effects.

Meantime I would like to suggest starting the following medications:
- PPI like Prilosec
- antacid
- probiotics
- hydramin
- plenty of water
- liquid diet

Hope this will be of help!
Wish you health!
