Suggest Treatment For Severe Depression

Posted on Mon, 15 May 2017
Question: Hello. Im in the midst of rTMS therapy, almost a session or two from the midpoint. My psychiatrist was amazed that i experienced vast improvement the 1st 2 weeks. Then, (in my own words) I plummeted; almost worse than when I'd begun. She assues me that rTMS is a process & maintain a positive attitude. I've attended almost every session except fo 2 due to a severe cough.
I explain all this to ask you if in your personal experiences with rTM, such a trend is sometimes the case & no real case for alarm.

2ndly, I have another question. As I always plan for the future, im quite natually concerbed rTMS won't heal my brain to return it to the normal person I was. Before the last 14 years and complete failure of 9-11 antidepressants. My psychiatrist determined via blood work that I have VERY high tolerance to most medications (medication resistant). I sincerely desire, in due time, to try dTMS, Deep Trancranial Magnetic Stimulation. Im not aiming for mere 'ok recovery', I'm determined to onliterate my depression.

Brief Answer:
Yes there will be fluctuations

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic as your health partner.

I read your query and understand your concerns about the decreased progress over time with rTMS.

I must assure you that what you are experiencing is completely normal and experienced by many individuals who undergo rTMS therapy.

In my practical experience I have at least four patients by this date who recovered completely even after halt in progress after few sessions.

I understand that there were failures with multiple antidepressants but it does not mean that you are not going to show progress over rTMS.

It is difficult for me to predict future but I can assure you that odds are high for recovery than failures.

I hope this helps you.
If you have more questions feel free to write back to me.
Thanks and regards.

Thank you sincerely. Just a followup question. In the mere chance it doesn't 'cure' my MDD, might it behoove me, after many months-- attempt dTMS??

You are most welcome

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
Thanks for follow up.

It is my privilege to answer your follow up question.

Although positive response during first two weeks clearly indicates that you will respond to it over the progress of treatment and possibility of treatment is very high with rTMS.

I also like to add that failure of one method of treatment does not indicate that there will be failure with other method of treatment. In case, although rare chance, rTMS does not help you to the desired level the option of tDCS can be explored without any contraindication.

I hope this helps you further.
For the continuity of care I will recommend you to ask direct questions to me in future whenever there is need using following link.
