Brief Answer:
Hi welcome to HCM, since you are already on Magenesium and calcium

Detailed Answer:
Hi welcome to HCM, since you are already on Magenesium and calcium supplements, I feel we have to look elsewhere. Vitamin E deficiency can also cause cramps. I would suggest you get your electrolytes checked. Sometimes a low sodium can also cause spasms. Please take some lemon juice with salt, and a capsule of vitamin E 400 mgs a day till your electrolyte reports come. And recurrent electrolyte/mineral imbalance indicates you need a diet correction and should consult a dietician. regards

Brief Answer:
I am more in favor of obtaining nutrients from natural sources

Detailed Answer:
Hi, I am more in favor of obtaining nutrients from natural sources--fruits and greens for potassium.

Supplements being in the pure form can lead to excess. Excess of both vitamins and minerals can harm as much as deficiency. If we take supplements we must monitor frequently--supplements should be reserved for conditions when real deficiency is detected.

I agree with your answer and I do eat a very natural, healthy, nutrient, packed diet(no sugar or processed food),and since the cramping, especially eating bananas, oranges, sweet potatoes, spinach,.and do get all the daily requirements.it makes me wonder about underlying causes.the cramps could be tetany or dystonic??parkinsons??i did as you recommended.took vitamin e and lemon and salt in mineral water, sipping all day, yesterday, and there seems to be an improvement.my gut instinct ,it was low sodium.is the mag and cal at 1200mg dangerous.i did that because I wanted them both to be balanced .the last 2years the mega multi minerals really helped and they have 1000mg. Of calcium.but I think it caused some mild plague in my arteries.i have a history of 50 years of a severe eating disorder, but have been clean the last 2 years.thanks for your input.

Brief Answer:
Correct! We do not recommend routine high dose calcium

Detailed Answer:
welcome back,

Correct! We do not recommend routine high dose calcium because it does lead to plaques. Similarly anything in excess can harm.As I always say--'too much of a good thing is not necessarily better'!

When nutrition is obtained from diet, the body knows how much to take and fibre from diet helps in elimination. But taken in pure form, too much can get absorbed. Continue with your good nutritional habits, and do get your eletrolytes done.

All the best--regards
