Question: My brother was recently diagnosed with myeloma (bone marrow cancer). In addition, about a month ago he had an accident at work where a 500 pound door that was on a cart being loaded on a truck slipped off and hit him the the middle of his chest. He is experiences high levels of pain in the center of his chest. He said that he has had pleurisy in the past and this feels like that. His local doctor says that he cannot see him until the 28th and i want to know if going urgent care will help or does he just have to rest as much as possible?

Today is pain level has decreased to a level 5 from an 8 yesterday. He had a chemo treatment with a steriod yesterday morning. This is only his second chemo treatment in this process.

Brief Answer:
Better to wait at home.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.

He is having blunt chest trauma 1 month back.
No need to worry or urgently visit doctor because his pain is decreasing in intensity.
Possibility of musculoskeletal pain is more.

So ask him to follow these steps for better symptomatic relief.

1. Avoid heavyweight lifting and strenuous exercise.
2. Avoid movements causing pain.
3. Avoid bad postures in sleep.
4. Give painkiller and muscle relaxant drugs.
5. Application of warm water pad on affected areas is also beneficial.

So, no need to worry for emergency.

Only rest and other above mentioned things are needed.

Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further.

Wishing good health to your brother.
Thanks.
