Suggest Treatment For Severe Back Pain In A Diabetic

default
Posted on Wed, 17 Feb 2016
Question: I find it extremely painful to sit for even 30 minutes because of severe pain in the lower back, in the tail bone area, especially in the car and airplane , as I cannot get up and walk around. I have to keep shifting my weight to one side and then the other constantly when sitting which is very painful as well. I can feel that the tail bone is very tender and painful and maybe also inflamed at all times. It has been like this for a couple of years and getting worse. I am looking for treatment to cure this condition. I am 64.7 years old, 5'09" tall, weight 180 lbs and I take medication for Type 2 Diabetes and also following medication: Synthroid, Benecar, Lipitor, Levemir insulin injection once a day, Invokana, Asprin. I am from XXXXXXX originally. Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Coccydynia ( tail bone pain) most likely.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM.

I have gone through your query. Your problem can be most likely Coccydynia ( tail bone pain ). Most cases the cause can't be established ( idiopathic). Treatment will be NSAID drugs like ibuprofen , physiotherapy and local measures.

It is better have a consultation with orthopedician to confirm it. You might need to take a X ray also.

If you have constipation then taking stool softeners will be helpful to ease this pain to some extent. Constipation can increase this kind of pain. You can use ayurvedic proprietary medications like softovac sf for this which is not habit forming and is suitable for diabetics.
You can also use a doughnut pillow while sitting to decrease the pressure on the area. Physiotherapy like ultrasound is also helpful. Physiotherapist will also teach you stretching exercises for decreasing this pain.
If there is no improvement then local injection of corticosteroids will be helpful.

Let me know if anything not clear. I am happy to help you.
Thanks.
