Suggest Treatment For Severe Back Pain Despite Medication

default
Posted on Tue, 14 Feb 2017
Question: Back in December, I needed advice regarding my aching back. It still aches and especially during sleep. Last week my doctor examined me and prescribed Ibuprofen and cyclobenzaprine. It works a little bit, but overall it seems I am not getting better. The ache is all over the back but mainly in the thoracic area. My great fear is that this could be related to my IPMN cyst in my pancreas. My cyst was discovered about three years ago. It is very small and I have had 3 MRI's. The last MRI was one year ago and the cyst has not changed. I am not due for another MRI until January 2018. I seems the cyst would need to grow very fast to cause back ache, and I do not have abdominal pain. Please advise.

Brief Answer:
The back pain is not from the cyst for sure.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Can you please mention if you have main duct IPMN or side branch IPMN?

Generally, pancreatic cyst would rather cause abdominal pain, lack of appetite, fullness etc. The symptoms would be strongly associated with eating. Back pain would appear as the last and hardly possible symptom.
So I really do not thing the pain is from the cyst. Actually I am pretty sure about it.
Spine MRI is what you should have done as the pain is most likely due to spine disc herniation.

Hope this helps.
Regards.
