Suggest Treatment For Severe Asthma And Fever

default
Posted on Mon, 16 Feb 2015
Question: I contracted the flu on New Year's Eve morning. I went to the doctor that day, but the PA on duty did not give me Tamiflu. It morphed into fever, cough, and eventually severe asthma that sent me to the ER. The fever broke over a week ago, but now I am plagued at night, and sometimes in the day, with cold sweats. No fever, no shaking. Is this to be expected, and when will the laryngitis I still have abate? I am a church pastor who is also on coumadin and Doxy is the only one that does not mess the INRs

Brief Answer:
Flu can last up to 3 weeks;keep well hydrated;olive oil&honey intake advise

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I am sorry for the situation you are in.

1. Usually, flu will last for about 3 weeks.

2. Laryngitis is a common complication of the flu due to inflammation of upper respiratory tract including laryngx.

3. Prednisone and albuterol nebulizer will help reduce the inflammation, thus, reversion of symptoms.

4. Doxy is an antibiotic and prescribed if bacterial infection is determined by physical examination.

5. The cold sweats you are having might be related to prednisone use. You can report this to the doctor who prescribed it.

6. It is also important to keep well hydrated as this will help improve your symptoms. Water, fresh fruit juice, tea and soups are highly recommended.

Throat gargle with warm water and salt is also recommended.

I usually advise my patients to take 1 teaspoon of olive oil and honey in the morning. That can helped most of my patients. You can try it too.

Wish fast recovery!
