Question: I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia a couple of years ago. I have all the chronic symptoms I.e ,chest pain, gerd,on going vomiting, severe stomach spasms, back, ear and throat pain from vomiting, ongoing nausea. I have had multiple EGDs,motility test of my stomach,CT of chest. I am on Carafate,protonix,atailnti-spasm med for my stomach and promethazine all of which isn't working. Multiple E.R. visits. The food suggested to me to eat isn't helping. When I drink water I throw it up. Meds aren't helping bcuz its not staying down. I am in pain now. Please advise.

Brief Answer:
Surgery recommended

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.
This is a situation when surgery is indicated and so called Nissen fundoplication shows the best results. It can be done laparoscopically in most institutions.
In hiatal hernia there is anatomic disorder and in cases of large hernias, medications are usually unsuccesful. You may try with complete dietary changes and omeprasol, but I still think that surgery is the only permanent solution. Wish you good health. Regards
