Suggest Treatment For Scoliosis And Sciatica Like Symptom

Question: thank you! I have fibromyalgia/arthritis pain throughout my body - I can't recall when I last had a painless day. 30 yrs ago I had laminectomy for 3 pinched nerves in neck (bet c4-c7) on left side due to undiagnosed arthritic deterioration, followed by a disc fusion bet c5-6 on right side due to a fall a year later. Believe I'm having more deterioration as neck always hurts. Now 72. Had surgery on left rotator cuff 2014 but pain continues, dr says from neck. I have scoliosis on left side. prone to "tipping" and unable to get up on my own when I've fallen. Had brain MRI after falling on sidewalk & hitting head. Came back okay. Left side of skull is sensitive to touch.Epstein-Barr diagnosed when in 30s. Feel fatigued all the time. Difficult to walk. Left knee likely osteo. Balance problems. Have trouble w/sciatic nerve, more on left. Also have stenosis on lowest back vertebrae--feels like something moves. I worry I'm getting multiple sclerosis. Have been taking Fluoxotine (for clinical depression), Trazadol & Losartan Potassium daily for a long time. I've had bad reaction to a couple of meds dr has tried due to (too much?) seratonin with the Trazadone. I take Tramadol for pain - or Ibuprofin -- provide some relief. Have seen orthopedic doctor, neurologist, rheumatologist, neurosurgeon, chiropractor. acupuncture; have had PT at various times. I'm a mess and don't want to live in pain or end up in a wheelchair. I retired in XXXXXXX 2013 - was in high-stress jobs (exec asst to pres/ceo/upper mgmt) at various companies since 1961. Thanks for whatever help you can provide.

Brief Answer:
Slipped disc

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

Thanks for the query.

I have read your query and understood your problem.

By reading through the details that you have provided I can understand the ordeal that you have suffered after going through surgery and multiple musculoskeletal neurological disorders throughout your medical history.

Since you are having scoliosis and operated cervical spine it appears that the toll has been taken on to your lower lumbar spine causing you are experiencing sciatica like symptom which could be due slipped disc or vertebral deformity, which needs to be addressed and treated especially if you have back pain radiating to the lower limbs, have tingling, numbness or weakness of the lower limbs.

You are on multiple medications for pain control like Tramadol and also antidepressants like Trazodone and Losartan for high blood pressure. I hope you are experiencing sound sleep you need to reduce stress in your life by practicing relaxation techniques like do bearing and Yoga.

You may require an MRI Scan to look for a slipped disc but since surgery has beeb done and you may have metal implants, kindly consult your Orthopaedic surgeon about the investigation that can be done, because MRI is magnetic and your impacts in the cervical spine can be a contraindication to MRI.

Avoid forward bending of the neck. Kindly consult with your Orthopaedic surgeon and Neurologist regarding the pain in your cervical spine which could be due to complain of surgery like infection, non union of the fusion of fracture of the spine. You could wear a cervical collar after consulting your surgeon about these possibilities.

You can apply hot fomentation to the lower back for pain relief due to muscle spasm. You can take Ibuprofen 200mg twice a day over a meal for pain relief. Avoid forward begging, lifting heavy weights. Since you have scoliosis, other methods of back pain relief like Epidural steroid will be very difficult to administrate due to disordered Anatomy.

I will be available for follow up queries.

I hope I have answered your query.

Thanking you.
