Suggest Treatment For Sciatica Pain

default
Posted on Fri, 27 Jan 2017
Question: Hello,
My husband has a very bad sciatica pain, he is laid on the floor since yesterday morning, I called a Dr yesterday that came home and gave him:
Ketorolac 60 mg injectable, Dexamethasone sodium phosphate 2 cc injectable
By mouth: Medrol Dose Pack, Ketorolac 10 mg

It's been 30 hrs and he is in a very bad pain. A good friend of mine gave me Diclofenac 75 injectable.
I need to know if I there is any severe drug interaction, or if it's safe to inject him with this, I have 3 doses available. I read that I can inject up to twice a day.
Please advise, thank you.How long it will take to get an answer to my question?

Brief Answer:
Both medicines are in the same drug family so can't be used together

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using HCM to post your question.
I read it carefully and I understand your.

Diclofenac its of the same family of drugs as Ketorolac, so you need to be at least 6 hours away from having used it and also the effect will be the same if you use Diclofenac.

I will suggest to add to the treatment Acetaminophen 1000mg 3 times/day in between the medicines he is taking because it will cover and potentiate the painkiller effect.
If he is still not better then you should call that doctor to give a stronger medicine which would be an opioid but those need a prescription because are substance abuse controlled drugs.

Hope this is helpful.

Hi, thanks for your answer, I forgot to tell you the Dr also gave him Ibuprofen 800 mg.

Last dosis of Ketorolac has been given at 2:30 pm EST, so I can inject him at 8:30 pm?

Also, can I continue with the rest of the medicines?
Please advise asap, thank you. Also can I inject him twice a day the Diclofenac 75?

Brief Answer:
Use either one or the other

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

You can inject Diclofenac since have been 6 hours after the dose of Ketorolac.
The dose 60mg of Ketorolac its a single dose treatment. So don't inject the next dose or ketorolac unless haven't been at least 12 hours. But use either Diclofenac or Ketorolac.

Use Ibuprofen in between, but I still would use it with caution because it is too in the same family of the other drugs.

Hope this helps.

Ok, thank you.
One more question, can a 30 g 1/2 needle be used for intramuscular injection? You still there? Please reply since I don't have other syringes, and I need to make sure I can use these to inject him. Thanks

Brief Answer:
The dissolving solution its around 2-3 ml

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I am sorry, it was night for me.

5 ml will be enough. But all depends on the amount that 30g has been dissolved too. In general it will be around 2-3 ml.

I hope you figured it out until now and haven't waited for this answer.

I wish you a Happy New Year and fast healing to your husband.

Dr.Papaqako
